Prof. Nienke van Atteveldt: Proving or improving yourself? Neurocognitive interplay between motivation, learning behavior and achievement

Professor Nienke van Atteveldt (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), a leading expert in educational neuroscience will visit Jyväskylä and give a lecture on adolescent motivation, incorporating neurobiological, as well as social and psychological perspectives.
Prof. Nienke van Atteveldt from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is visiting Jyväskylä and will give a lecture titled “Proving or improving yourself? Neurocognitive interplay between motivation, learning behavior and achievement” on May 22. Prof. van Atteveldt is one of the foremost experts in the field of educational neuroscience and currently leads two ERC-funded research projects.
Her research addresses questions such as student resilience and why certain adolescents avoid or embrace challenges. In her research program, learning is approached as a multi-level phenomenon, taking into account the neurobiology of learning, which is affected by a child’s individual learning history, beliefs and goals, as well as their social environment.
